New Firm Association Names Executive Director

A global alliance of top-ranked CPA firms has named former American Institute of CPAs executive Steven E. Sacks as its executive director.

The yet-to-be-named alliance, formed in November, is geared toward firms with at least $15 million in revenue and that can target larger private and smaller public companies on a national basis and provide related 404/SOX work.

Effective March 1, Sacks will be based in the New York offices of alliance member Mahoney Cohen & Co. Other current members include San Ramon, Calif.-based Armanino McKenna LLP, Wausau, Wis.-based Wipfli LLP, Norfolk, Va.-based Goodman & Co., Los Angeles-based Holthouse Carlin & Van Trigt LLP, and Rea & Associates Inc. in New Philadelphia, Ohio.

Sacks' experience includes more than 15 years at the AICPA and subsequent work with CPA2Biz Inc. and Solutions to Results LLC. While at the institute, Sacks headed consulting services and led the creation of the Accredited in Business Valuation credential. He also developed consulting standards for CPAs, continuing education programs, newsletters and niche-practice conferences, as well as authoring numerous articles on accounting, valuation, fraud and practice management topics.

The group said that as many as four other firms with combined annual revenues in excess of $100 million may sign on in the next 30 to 60 days. Mark Garten, chairman of Mahoney Cohen, and Wipfli partner Bill Young serve as co-chairmen of the association.
