Bloomington, Minn. (May 17, 2004) -- National CPA and business consulting firm RSM McGladrey has appointed technology veteran Joseph R. Topinka as chief information officer, effective May 25.
Topinka, whose career pedigree includes more than 25 years in banking and financial services technology, currently serves as executive vice president and CIO at BNY Clearing Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of Bank of New York.
"While we had someone who led our information technology services, we have decided to make it an executive management position. The previous individual reported into the chief financial officer's office. This position will now report directly to the president. So, you can see the importance we have placed in this newly defined role," Deborah Ely-Lawrence, director of corporate communications, said of the appointment.
At RSM, Topinka will be responsible for overseeing firm-wide IT development and management strategies. He will report to RSM president Steve Tait.
At BONY, Topinka established the IT function for BNY Clearing Services and also implemented an e-commerce strategy and a Web-based brokerage workstation.
