SASB announces partnership with Fordham University

The Sustainability Accounting Standards Board announced a new partnership with Fordham University and its Gabelli School of Business on Thursday, promoting the development of a sustainability accounting education program, along with academic research and public events.

The new partnership will see Fordham University host a permanent venue for SASB meetings in New York City. Fordham, in turn, will lend academic research and collaboration to the sustainability accounting field, while SASB will acquaint students with SASB Standards with educational tools and "key market perspectives," per the announcement.

"This collaboration with SASB is about embracing ideas that are mutually beneficial to the global business world and to society," stated Barbara Porco, director for The Center for Professional Accounting Practices at Fordham University's Gabelli School of Business. "And a big part of this partnership is about training the next generation of sustainability leaders in business. The natural synergies between Fordham and SASB are fantastic."

Other collaboration activities will include:

  • Thought leadership focused on sustainable accounting issues, featuring SASB's annual conference and a series of innovative speakers.
  • Increasing SASB's research with the help of the University, with an emphasis on rising issues relating to financially material sustainability issues
  • Creating new education tools for Fordham students, preparing them on sustainability issues for their future careers.
