SEC Midwest Director Steps Down

Washington (Nov. 25, 2003) -- Mary E. Keefe, regional director of the Securities and Exchange Commission's Midwest Regional Office, said she will leave the commission next month to become associate general counsel and head of global compliance of Citadel Investment Group, L.L.C.

A securities law specialist, she came to the SEC’s Midwest Regional Office in 1982 and was appointed regional director in 1994. In that role, she has been responsible for the agency's enforcement and examination programs in nine Midwest states.

Her staff had brought a number of enforcement actions against securities firms, including Piper Capital Management and wirehouse PaineWebber.

A successor has not been named.
