SEC Names Regional Directors

Washington (June 10, 2004) - The Securities and Exchange Commission named Mark K. Schonfeld as director of its Northeast regional office and  Merri Jo Gilette as regional director of its Midwest office.

Schonfeld, who will be based in New York, will oversee a territory with enforcement and examination programs in 13 states and the District of Columbia. He succeeds Wayne M. Carlin, who left for a post at the law firm of Wachtell Lipton Rosen & Katz.

Schonfeld, 41, previously was an associate regional director for enforcement in the Northeast office and led the negotiations for the $250 million settlement with Alliance Capital Management in December.

Gillette, who will be based in Chicago, will oversee both enforcement and examination programs within the MRO's nine-state jurisdiction.
She is expected to assume her new post later this month.

As regional director she succeeds Mary Keefe, who left for a job at  Citadel Investment Group.
