Nonprofit software vendor Blackbaud has launched a new version of its online community solution. Blackbaud NetCommunity lets nonprofits establish online communities where they can interact with donors, building long-term support and interest, as well as improving their fundraising. NetCommunity offers e-mail marketing, and lets users post Weblogs, manage content, run polls and create discussion groups, and it lets donors update their own profiles, make donations and register for events themselves. The solution also integrates with Blackbaud's Raiser's Edge software, automating and deepening an organization's knowledge of its donor base.
Price: Starts at $18,500.
FAS tax update
With two major tax acts passed in 2004 - the Working Families Tax Relief Act and the American Jobs Creation Act - software vendors of all stripes are working to incorporate the changes in their applications. Best Software released an update for its FAS fixed asset line of products late in December, to cover the provisions that are related to that area. FAS 2005.1 Tax Update is available for download by current SupportPlus customers, and will be automatically sent to them on CD-ROM. Inactive customers can renew their support contracts with a phone call.
Price: Free for FAS SupportPlus customers.
Tax changes are also reflected in the new version of GSL Galactic Consulting's QP-SEP Illustrator, a program that designs and illustrates contribution allocations under profit-sharing, simplified employee pension, and salary reduction SEP plans.
In this case, it's cost-of-living adjustments to dollar limitations for retirement plans, which are necessary for the employers and financial advisors who offer these plans. The program includes a solve-for-target-value function and an optimizer, and automatically calculates a number of important figures.
Price: $150. Free technical support and telephone tutorial available, if needed.
