Squar Milner expands in Los Angeles with latest merger

Squar Milner, a Top 50 firm based in Irvine, California, is doing its second M&A deal this month by adding two partners and nine other professionals from BPE&H, one of the larger firms in the San Fernando Valley, which will continue to operate with its remaining partners and staff.

Former BPE&H partners Scott Howard and Suzanne Jacobs have spun-off from BPE&H to join Squar Milner. The deal comes only a week after Squar Milner announced a combination with SRG LLP, another large accounting firm in the San Fernando Valley. Squar Milner is projected to have over $126 million in revenue and a workforce of more than 600 professionals and associates after the combination with SRG. Howard and Jacobs will contribute $3 million more in revenue and 11 professionals. Squar Milner ranked 41st on Accounting Today’s 2019 list of the Top 100 Firms.

“We are so happy to have the Howard and Jacobs group join us,” said Squar Milner managing partner Steve Milner in a statement. “They are committed, as are we, to making our new Woodland Hills office another anchor in Los Angeles. They have great clients who we look forward to serving. Their real estate and restaurant expertise will significantly enhance our firm.”

The merger with Howard and Jacobs takes effect Jan. 1, 2020. They and their team will work with the SRG employees out of SRG’s old Woodland Hills office.

“We love their culture,” said BPE&H’s Scott Howard, referring to Squar Milner. “They work hard to make their firm a really nice and profitable place to work. This will give our people an unlimited number of career opportunities.”

The combined offices in Woodland Hills will house 215 professionals. It will be Squar Milner’s second location in the San Fernando Valley and its third in Los Angeles. The firm also has offices in San Francisco, San Mateo, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego, Encino and the Cayman Islands.

In February, Squar Milner merged in Louie & Wong LLP, a firm in San Francisco, and last November it combined with another San Francisco firm, Boas & Boas LLP. In 2017, Squar Milner merged in two other California firms, DZH Phillips and Loomis & Co. CPAs.
