State Society News: N.Y. Picks Prez, Ohio Re-Launches Site

The New York State Society of CPAs has installed Thomas E. Riley as its president for the 2006-07 term.

Riley joined the society in 1982 and is a principal at regional accounting and consulting firm TFG CPAs, which has four offices in New York state. He has served the society as president-elect, vice president and secretary, and as a member of the group's executive and finance committees. He has been a trustee for the society's Foundation for Accounting Education, as well as serving as a chairman and member of several professional committees.

Riley is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and holds certification as a personal financial specialist. He is also a member of the Estate Planning Council of Central New York and is a former member of its board of directors.

Separately, as part of its work to ensure that members have access to the resources they need, the Ohio Society of CPAs has recently launched a new and improved Web site at www.ohioscpa.com .

Built completely around the results of member research, the new site introduces new features and gives members more personalized service. New tools include a CPE transcript feature that members can use to track their continuing education credits, a member directory, free member e-mail, a link library of popular Internet sites for CPAs, and online dues payment.

In addition, Ohio Society member service specialists are available to respond to member questions in live chats on the Web site during business hours. If a member has a question or needs guidance on any of the new tools, they can click on "Live Support," and society member service specialists respond instantly.

The Web site also features several resources for the public, including the CPA Referral Service, a speaker bureau, a newsroom for the media, programs for students, as well as personal financial management tips and tools.
