Vault ranks 50 best firms to work for in 2019

Online career resource Vault published its sixth annual "Accounting 50" on Tuesday, ranking the 50 best accounting firms to work for in 2019. Utilizing the feedback of more than 8,800 professionals, firms were ranked according to a number of factors, such as firm reputation, culture and overall job satisfaction.

"When Vault asks accounting professionals what matters most to them in choosing an employer, they continually tell us that although prestige is important, it's not the only determining factor," the site noted. "In addition to prestige, accounting professionals find the following factors extremely important: firm culture, type of work, location, work/life balance, compensation, business outlook and training opportunities."

Big Four firms PwC, Deloitte and KPMG dominated the top three spots on the overall ranking, with PwC taking the top spot (as it did in last year's rankings). "This firm requires the individual to be entrepreneurial and aggressive in pursuing a career," one PwC professional noted in the survey. "Most who work here have a strong work ethic and [are] prepared to work hard to achieve a successful career."

Vault further broke down the rankings into different categories and subcategories, noting firm prestige, diversity and quality of life. PwC and Deloitte ranked #1 and #2, respectively, in prestige, with PwC ranking first in overall diversity, minority diversity, and LGBT diversity. Plante Moran, the Michigan-based mid-sized firm, finished #1 in a majority of the quality of life rankings, including firm leadership, hours, overall satisfaction and work/life balance.
