Doblin Releases Ten Types of Innovation App

Doblin, Deloitte’s innovation and design practice, released a Ten Types of Innovation app for iPad, providing interactive tools and processes to help businesses discover, develop and test new growth opportunities.

The Ten Types of Innovation, Doblin’s framework for helping companies improve success rates and innovation return on investment, is packaged in the app as a curated newsfeed with more than 100 tactical building blocks and an interactive roadmap companies can use to navigate common pitfalls and strengthen their business ideas.

The app is structured in three sections:

Learn, where users can take a deeper look at these tactics and each of the innovation types.

Explore, where users can follow the innovation newsfeed curated by the Doblin team.

Create, enabling users to build their own ideas through step-by-step prompts and tools that guide them through a systematic approach to concept development. Preset tactics combinations are available or can be created as the idea is built and created visually and financially in the sketchpad.

[IMGCAP(1)]The app is rooted in practical advisement drawn from Doblin’s $6.8 million in research of the 1200 most important innovations over the last 200 years, according to Larry Keeley, Doblin cofounder, director of Deloitte Consulting, and co-author of The Ten Types of Innovation: The Discipline of Building Breakthroughs. With innovation failing 95 percent of the time, he explained, the app serves to “blow up the myths of innovation.”

“Modern innovation is a lot like major surgery; the people who are good at it have special training. [We] make sure this is the easiest, smartest, systematic innovation.”

The app is designed to give companies of any size, from startups to large corporations, Doblin’s proprietary tools and insights gained from years of research.

The app is free, though premium paid users can access deeper capabilities. While giving away these resources at no cost could appear “selfless,” according to Keeley, it enables faster and more widespread learning in the companies using the app, in turn giving Doblin a deeper well of user feedback. He expects the app to yield a large ROI for everyone, explaining that only 5 percent of innovation initiatives return the cost of capitol.

“I’m so proud of the team that developed this and the Deloitte folks who had the courage to fund it,” Keeley continued.

The Ten Types of Innovation app for iPad is available in the iTunes store.
