Accounting MOVE Project gears up & wants you

Wilson-Taylor Associates, Inc., the firm that released the inaugural report of the Accounting MOVE Project, which measures and supports the advancement of women at public accounting firms, is looking for firms to participate in their sophomore effort – one that will focus on Gen Y women, the partnership pipeline and measurement strategies.

Last year the project found that 51 percent of firm employees are women. That firms do successfully promote women into management and make up 49 percent of all managers. The ceiling is at the senior manager level; women comprise 40 percent of senior managers and are 17 percent of partners.

And that, firms, overlook women’s aptitude for business development.

According Joanne Cleaver, at Wilson-Taylor Associates, accounting firms of all sizes have put in place extensive supports and work-life accommodations to get working parents through the busy season, however, they don’t get credit for it because they aren’t doing a good enough job communicating this to employees and clients.

This poor communication perpetuates the stereotype that accounting is an “intense, no-mercy career that is unfriendly to women.”The Accounting MOVE Project is co-sponsored by the American Society of Women Accountants (ASWA) and the American Woman’s Society of Certified Public Accountants (AWSCPA).
