BlumShapiro to host 3rd Annual JA Career Walk in West Hartford, Conn.

Thirty students from West Hartford’s Hall High School, Conard High School and Kingswood-Oxford will be exploring various career opportunities at local businesses during the 3rd Annual JA Career Walk, set for May 11.

Founded by BlumShapiro and Junior Achievement of Southwest New England in 2014, the JA Career Walk looks to prepare students on choosing their career paths by giving them a better understanding of the job opportunities in their local community.

“The JA Career Walk has become an invaluable opportunity for high school students to explore successful businesses at a key point in their lives,” said Joseph Kask, CEO of BlumShapiro, in a statement. “As they begin to think about colleges and courses of study, the JA Career Walk opens up their minds about the skills necessary to reach their career goals. I want to thank our neighboring businesses in West Hartford Center for making JA Career Walk such a positive experience for these students.”

Students from the three schools will visit different West Hartford businesses – representing accounting, banking, finance, marketing, retail, and more - with the program beginning and ending at BlumShapiro's headquarters at 29 South Main Street.

At the start of the program, students will receive an orientation using the JA Job Shadow curriculum, which gives students an overview of the working world and the necessary skills needed to thrive therein. The orientation will be hosted by Tom DeVitto, chief marketing officer of BlumShapiro and a founder of the JA Career Walk.

Other businesses opening their doors to students during the Walk include Charles Schwab, Farmington Bank, Fathom, Lux Bond & Green, PBI Financial, REI and SIGHT Eye Health. Each business will provide an overview and tour, discussing the type of titles they hold and the qualities they look for when hiring professionals.
