Thirty-three of BDO USA LLP’s offices have been recognized in 2010 with the prestigious Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility.

Twenty-six of the offices were named winners of the award and seven others were cited for honorable mention. The Sloan Awards are presented to companies that offer excellent workplace flexibility practices and use flexibility as a business tool to strategically enhance organizational effectiveness and benefit employees.

The awards are part of When Work Works, an ongoing initiative of the Families and Work Institute, in partnership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Institute for a Competitive Workforce and the Twiga Foundation, with funding from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. This is the second consecutive year that more than 30 of BDO’s offices have been honored.

“Five years ago we introduced BDO Flex, a management strategy critical to solving broad business challenges in a global marketplace and a tool that enables us to work smarter in a competitive, ‘do more with less’ business environment,” said BDO USA CEO Jack Weisbaum in a statement. “These awards, which take into account both the personal and business benefits of flexibility, recognize the success our strategy. The Sloan Awards are especially gratifying because they utilize an employee survey as a major part of the evaluation process.”

In addition to the Sloan Awards, during the past year, BDO has been named one of the 2010 Best CPA Firms for Women by the American Society of Women Accountants and the American Woman’s Society of CPAs, and one of the Best Places to Work for Recent Grads by Experience Inc., a provider of career services for college students and alumni.

The BDO offices recognized with the Sloan Award are in Atlanta; Austin, Texas; Bethesda, Md.; Boston; Charlotte, N.C.; Chicago; Dallas; Detroit; Grand Rapids, Mich.; Houston; Kalamazoo, Mich.; Las Vegas; Long Island, N.Y.; Los Angeles; Memphis, Tenn.; Miami; Milwaukee; Nashville, Tenn.; New York; Orange County, Calif.; Philadelphia; Phoenix; Richmond, Va.; San Diego; San Francisco; San Jose, Calif.; Seattle; Spokane, Wash.; West Palm Beach, Fla.; Westchester, N.Y.; Woodbridge, N.J.; and BDO’s national office in Chicago.
