SourceMedia has appointed Daniel Hood as the new editor-in-chief of Accounting Today.

As editor-in-chief, Hood will be responsible for expanding the group’s digital and social media initiatives, leveraging SourceMedia’s research capabilities to benefit the accounting profession, and developing community-building programs.
“Dan is a thoughtful and creative editor who has the right experience and skills to lead Accounting Today to new heights of success,” said John McCormick, editorial director of SourceMedia’s Professional Services and Technology Groups. “He’s been a critical component in many of the brand’s innovations, and will enable Accounting Today to continue its impressive growth.”
Hood was previously Accounting Today’s managing editor. In his 15 years in that role, Hood helped steer the brand through a period of significant change and growth for the accounting profession. Accounting Today has twice been a finalist for a Jesse H. Neal Award, one of the most prominent awards programs for business journalism. The publication also has won an Excellence in Financial Journalism award from the New York State Society of CPAs.
”Having covered the profession for more than 15 years, I’m excited at the opportunity to help lead Accounting Today forward,” said Hood. “With the strength of our brand and the growing reach of our digital and social media outlets, we’re finding more ways than ever to get accountants the insight and information they need, and I’m looking forward to taking that to the next level.”
Under Hood, Accounting Today’s editorial agenda will focus on bringing its core audience of professional accountants more information and insight through an ever-expanding range of media – adding in-depth research capabilities, creating more video and rich media content, developing more integrated special reports, and building community though live events and social media initiatives.
“Dan has been an invaluable asset to the brand and I am thrilled and excited about this next chapter for Accounting Today,” said senior vice president and group publisher Rob Whitaker. “Having worked closely with him for many years, I am confident that we will see great things with him at the helm.”
A graduate of Georgetown University, Hood has served on the editorial staff of the New York Daily News and The Wall Street Journal Europe. He is the author of five novels and a guidebook to New York City. Hood succeeds Bill Carlino, who has joined Transition Advisors, LLC as the managing director of the consultancy's National Consulting Service division after 12 years as Accounting Today’s editor-in-chief. Hood will take over the post on March 16.
