GASB Debuts Quarterly E-newsletter

The Governmental Accounting Standards Board has launched GASB Outlook, a quarterly electronic newsletter designed to keep stakeholders informed about key GASB projects and activities.

The newsletter aims to present current accounting and financial reporting issues in plain English and will be released every three months. Regular features will include a column entitled, “From the Chairman’s Desk” featuring GASB chairman David Vaudt’s insights on key issues facing the board.

The “What You Need To Know About” section provides a briefing on GASB projects that should be on the radar of accountants and other GASB constituents. Another section, “Stakeholder Focus,” features perspectives on issues affecting GASB stakeholders.

The newsletter also includes videos on key GASB topics, along with a calendar of upcoming GASB meetings and events. GASB Outlook’s interactive format enables stakeholders to provide input on the articles, as well as inform GASB of other specific interests.

“We created the GASB Outlook to provide high-level information about projects in progress and insights into how the GASB’s efforts may impact stakeholders,” Vaudt said in a statement. “For those stakeholders who want additional detail, features will provide links to new and existing content, video, and educational materials on our Web site.”

GASB’s sister organization, the Financial Accounting Standards Board, recently debuted its own “FASB Outlook” e-newsletter with a similar format (see FASB Debuts Quarterly Newsletter).

In addition, GASB is relaunching the GASB Report, a monthly print newsletter, as a free electronic notification service focused on recent technical developments.” The GASB Report will continue to feature highlights of GASB’s deliberations and tentative decisions, recent due process documents and final pronouncements, and other items of a more technical nature.

Readers can subscribe to both e-newsletters at no cost. Features from the debut issue of GASB Outlook can be found on GASB’s Web site.
