The Institute of Management Accountants has introduced a new awards program for academics.
IMA’s Foundation for Applied Research is offering an Emerging Scholar Competitive Manuscript Award. The IMA is accepting entries for the 2010 program now through Jan. 31, 2011.

The Emerging Scholar Competitive Manuscript Award was created to acknowledge the exceptional manuscript contribution of a single emerging scholar (or lead author recognition) of management accounting who has received a terminal degree (Ph.D., DBA, Ed. D., JD) within the last seven years.

The manuscript nominated for the award can be either a single authored piece or a co-authored piece with the emerging scholar as the lead author. Nominations may be submitted by the individual candidate, the candidate’s mentor, or a peer.

To nominate a candidate or make a self-nomination, scholars should submit an electronic file (preferably in PDF format) of the published article from the original journal, including the journal name and date of publication. The article must be published in English with a publication date between January 2004 and December 2010.

They should also include a letter of nomination of the candidate, indicating the rationale for the nomination. The year of conferral of the candidate’s terminal degree should be indicated.
Submissions must be made by Jan. 31, 2011 via e-mail to: Susan Weiss, CMA, CFM, FAR FAR director and Task Force Selection Committee chair, at sfw1@bryant.edu.

The Selection Committee will select the winning author by March 10, 2011 and notify the winner shortly thereafter. The winner will be recognized at the IMA Breakfast during the American Accounting Association Annual Meeting in Denver, Colo., in August 2011.
