The IRS filed the tax lien against the NFL player and his wife last year for unpaid taxes dating back to 2007 and 2009, according to TMZ. He was able to pay off the tax lien with the $925,000 he received after the Steelers decided to re-sign the player. Burress reportedly still owes $59,000 in unpaid taxes to New York State and $159,000 from a car accident lawsuit, according to TMZ.

Burress was released from prison in June 2011 after serving a two-year sentence. He pleaded guilty in 2009 to weapons charges after he accidentally shot himself in the leg during a visit to a New York City nightclub in November 2008. The Glock pistol he was carrying in the waistband of his pants began sliding down his leg and, while trying to retrieve it, he unintentionally shot himself.

Following his release from prison, Burress spent a year playing for the New York Jets and was re-signed to his former team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, last November after two other Steelers were injured.
