Former Senator Rick Santorum took a break from the campaign trail on Friday and said he was going home to do his taxes.

The former Pennsylvania senator had a strong showing in CNN’s Republican Presidential candidate debate in Jacksonville, Fla., on Thursday night, but he acknowledged that he is running low on campaign money and wants to take a short break before the Florida primary on Tuesday. He introduced his 93-year-old mother, who was in the audience at the debate and lives in the Sunshine State.

“I’m coming back within 24 hours, and I’m here through to election day,” he told Fox News, according to the Associated Press.

Santorum has yet to release his tax returns, and promised to do so as rival candidates Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich have released theirs this week and last week, respectively.

“Frankly, I’ve got to get home because everybody’s asking for my tax returns,” he said Wednesday, according to ABC News. “I’ve got to get these tax returns, so everybody gets what they’ve been asking for.”

Santorum reportedly declined to say how many years of tax returns he would release, but he indicated that there would be little excitement in them by pretending to yawn when asked what they would reveal.

Over the weekend, however, Santorum's three-year-old daughter Bella, who has a genetic disorder, was admitted to Children's Hospital in Philadelphia with pneumonia. Santorum later said that she had "turned a corner," but wasn't "out of the woods yet." He plans to resume campaigning as soon as possible.
