New York (November 9, 2009)

British rock band Echo & The Bunnymen have canceled their U.S. tour, citing “unreasonable demands” from the IRS.

“It’s with the deepest regret that Echo & The Bunnymen have had to cancel their USA November tour,” said a statement from the band. “This is due to unreasonable demands been presented by the IRS for the band to enter the USA to tour. This is not a visa issue as some websites have stated. Echo & The Bunnymen will be touring the USA from East to West Coast in April 2010. Please contact venues for refunds.”

The band, whose hits have included “Bring on the Dancing Horses,” were supposed to begin their eight-city tour in Atlanta on Nov. 15 to promote the U.S. release of their latest album, “The Fountain,” on Nov. 10. However, IRS rules require foreign bands that tour the U.S. more than once in a 30-day period to pay an extra fee.

The band had already played a show in New York last month that fell within the 30-day period and would have needed to pay a heavy fee to tour again this month.
