COLORADO

Belfint, Lyons & Shuman PA has been named one of the 2016 Top Workplaces honor by The News Journal for the eighth consecutive year.

FLORIDA

Stephanie Hill and Amy Coleman have joined forces to create Hill Coleman CPA Firm + Business Advisors, a boutique accounting, tax and business consulting firm in South Walton. Hill brings 27 years of private industry and public accounting experience to the firm, while Coleman brings 18 years of experience in private industry and public accounting. Kira Kit has also has joined the firm as a junior accountant.

The Indiana CPA Society received a 2016 'Power of A' Summit Award from the American Society of Association Executives for its CPA Center of Excellence.

NEW YORK

The Marcum Foundation won a 2016 EDGE Award for Outstanding Community Service from the Leading Edge Alliance. The award coincides with the Foundation’s first full year of operation as a national organization. Launched as a national organization on June 1, 2015, the foundation raised more than $242,000 for local charities between then and May 31, 2016. In addition, Marcum LLP, opened its first office in Europe: Marcum RBK (Ireland) Limited, Dublin, is a joint venture with Russell Brennan Keane, the largest independent accounting and business advisory firm in Ireland. The new venture was established as a service center for current and future hedge fund and private equity fund clients of the Marcum Alternative Investment Group. … Deloitte LLP has launched the Center for Board Effectiveness, a single organization that combines the experience, knowledge and resources of the Center for Corporate Governance and the Audit Committee Programs, and focuses on the myriad issues facing corporate boards today. Deb DeHaas, vice chairman and national managing partner, and Henry Phillips, vice chairman and national managing partner, will jointly lead the center.

NORTH DAKOTA

Eide Bailly LLP, Fargo, announced the winners of its 2016 Nonprofit Resourcefullness Awards, recognizing outstanding nonprofit revenue generation efforts in Arizona, Colorado, Minnesota, and Utah. The Grand Prize winners, who each received $10,000, were: in Arizona, the Phoenix Symphony; in Colorado, La Puente Home Inc.; in Minnesota, Spark-Y; and in Utah, Utah Youth Village.

PENNSYLVANIA

Over 1,200 CPAs participated in the Pennsylvania Institute of CPAs’ second annual Week of Service through nearly 60 events were held across the state from Sept. 19 through Sept. 25. Food was donated, prepared for, and served to adults and children, book drives were held, and building and gardening services were rendered for organizations such as the United Way and Habitat for Humanity. Other organizations to which CPAs donated include, but are not limited to, food banks, homeless and crisis shelters, and the Ronald McDonald House.

TENNESSEE

Confirmation.com, Brentwood, received the Teaching Innovation Award from the Forensic Accounting Section of the American Accounting Association for “Simply Soups Inc.: A Teaching Case Designed to Integrate the Electronic Cash Confirmation Process into Auditing Curriculum.” It was developed by Denise Downey, assistant accounting professor at Villanova University; Barbara Porco, accounting professor at Fordham University; Jay Thibodeau, professor of accountancy at Bentley University; and Confirmation.com.

WISCONSIN

Wipfli LLP, Milwaukee, was named Abila Partner of the Month in September by the nonprofit software developer. In addition, the firm announced that it will participate in BAI Beacon 16, a conference for financial services leaders.
