RubinBrown merges in Stewart Archibald & Barney

St. Louis-based Top 100 firm RubinBrown is expanding into Las Vegas by combining with Stewart Archibald & Barney, the sixth largest accounting firm in Vegas, effective June 1, 2017.

The deal will bolster RubinBrown’s gaming practice and allow it to better service clients in Las Vegas. “We have a national gaming practice, and RubinBrown currently does some work in Las Vegas,” said RubinBrown chairman John F. Herber Jr. “Las Vegas is probably the largest market for gaming in the U.S., and we need to be there. The Stewart Archibald & Barney combination is very attractive to us for that, so that’s why we’re going to Las Vegas.”

As part of the deal, Stewart Archibald & Barney managing partner Glenn L. Goodnough will continue as managing partner of the Las Vegas office. All of the 56 people at his firm are expected to continue with the expanded RubinBrown.

“The combination of RubinBrown and SAB will provide many advantages as we will gain the gaming expertise possessed by RubinBrown while also expanding the services and resources to our clients in the Las Vegas market,” Goodnough said in a statement.

His firm will also get access to expertise abroad through RubinBrown’s affiliation with BakerTilly International.

The deal will bring together more than 600 people in the combined firm, which already has offices in Denver, Kansas City, Nashville and St. Louis. St. Louis-based RubinBrown expanded to Kansas City in 2005, Denver in 2010, and Nashville in 2015.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. RubinBrown ranked 46th on Accounting Today’s 2017 list of the Top 100 Firms, with $86.07 million in annual revenue. Stewart Archibald & Barney earns almost $8 million in annual revenue, according to Herber.

Daniel Holmes and his wife Jessica Holmes will relocate from RubinBrown’s St. Louis office to the Las Vegas office. Daniel Holmes will serve as a partner and co-practice leader for RubinBrown’s gaming practice, concentrating on expansion in the Las Vegas market. Jessica Holmes will be a manager in RubinBrown’s Business Advisory Services Group focusing on data analytics and consulting services for the western United States.
