George Buchanan oversees credit for the Business Banking and Private Wealth Management Groups for Regions Financial Corporation, a top U.S. bank-holding company headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, with $119 billion in assets, operating over 1,700 banking offices in 16 states.Buchanan joined Regions in 2011 from U.S. Bank where he served as senior vice president and Chief Credit Officer for Small Business and Affluent Banking. Prior to joining U.S. Bank in 2007, Buchanan was the Business Banking senior credit officer for Regions Financial, where he served in many credit roles during his 13 years with Regions and its predecessor, AmSouth.� He began his banking career at First Union in 1992 as a credit analyst.In addition to serving as president from 2009 to 2011, Buchanan is an executive committee and board member for the Small Business Financial Exchange. �Buchanan is an active member within the Risk Management Association, currently serving as the Chair of the Small Business Committee, the Dean’s Business Council for the University of Illinois College of Business, and is on the Board of Directors for Opera Birmingham.� He has also served as the Small Business committee chair for the Consumer Bankers Association and is currently an at-large member.He received an undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois and an MBA from Auburn University.
