U.S. governors from California to New York are proposing tax cuts, rebates and other forms of relief to drivers paying more than $4 a gallon to fill their gasoline tanks amid Russia’s war with Ukraine.

The Empire State collected $1.6 billion in revenue in July, up $276 million from a year earlier, signaling a strong rebound.

The IRS still hasn’t found everyone who is due a $1,200 stimulus check from the government, and locating everyone eligible for the payments will be key for any additional pandemic relief Congress may pass later this year.
