Steve brings 12 years of design and innovation experience to his role as Head of Design, Partnerships at Automatic. Using a design thinking approach, Steve works with strategic partners to create solutions that are viable to the business, desirable to their customers, and can be implemented quickly using Automatic's connected car platform. His goal is to ship products and services that improve the car ownership experience for users and businesses alike.Prior to Automatic, Steve was Director at IDEO, where he built a portfolio of work in transportation and the built environment industries. In that role, he helped companies like Ford, Bosch and Renault build their brand, shape innovation capabilities, and reposition energy and transportation challenges as platforms for growth. He and the teams he led have won several awards for their work.Steve has also designed green building strategies for the US government, digital experiences for utilities, work spaces for workplace products companies, and medical injection devices for pharmaceuticals firms. He holds several patents for his workAfter earning a graduate degree in product design from Stanford University, Steve returned as guest lecturer and adjunct professor. In 2007, he launched a course on sustainable design and periodically teaches at the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design (the d.school).Steve serves as an adviser to several startups and organizations, and frequently speaks at conferences and other events. His writing has been published in The Atlantic, Harvard Business Review, and Rotman magazines.
