People on the move: Prager Metis hires first chief revenue officer

Grant Thornton appoints chief sales officer; Elliott Davis welcomes back former general counsel as COO; and more personnel news.


Kash Hussain was appointed a partner in the assurance department in the Los Angeles office at CohnReznick.

Annamaria Rapakko, recently retired as a partner from PwC, has joined the board of directors of the Child Advocates of Silicon Valley, Milpitas.

Chris Austin was reappointed as chair of the International Accounting Education Standards Board, Toronto, for a one-year renewable term starting Jan. 1, 2018.


Sue Folkringa, CPA and resident “aviation taxologist” at Wolcott & Associates, Fort Lauderdale, was appointed to the National Business Aviation Association tax committee during the recent NBAA Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition.


James Caylor was hired as a business assurance senior manager; Amber Ellingson was hired as a corporate accounting senior manager; and David Knorr was hired as a tax manager at Moore Colson, Atlanta.

Katz, Sapper & Miller, Indianapolis, announced four new directors: John Estridge in the real estate services group; John Henne and Zeeshan Malik in the audit and assurance services group; and Karen Hill as director of talent acquisitions and staffing.


Monica Sullivan was named a principal at TD&T CPAs and Advisors, Oskaloosa.


Emily Collins joined the human resources consulting team and Jack Miller was hired as an associate director in the tax team, at Dean Dorton, Lexington.

The National Association of Black Accountants announced NABA members that were appointed as advisory committee members for the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy: Felicia Farrar, to the Continuing Professional Education Committee; Sandra Gates to the Qualifications Committee; Teererai Mwaramba to the Behavioral Enforcement Committee; LaNita Ray to the Licensing Committee; Glenniece Stewart to the Peer Review Committee; and Dilliana Stewart to the Technical Standards Review Committee.

William Fritts, member of Smith Kearns & Co., was voted the No. 1 Accountant in the Tri-State area by Herald-Mail Media readers for 2017.


Karen Hudson was named chief sales officer at Grant Thornton, Minneapolis, to lead the firm’s sales enablement center of excellence and oversee the business development team.


MarksNelson hired five new team members: Jenny Anwander as a staff accountant in the assurance and business advisory department; Elaine Boch as a supervisor in the state and local tax area of the specialty services department; Carody Kean as a business development specialist in the marketing department; Bryan Moore as a senior consultant in the specialty services department; and Matthew Stuckey as a staff accountant in the assurance and business advisory department.

Yasmine Misuraca was hired as partner-in-charge of the forensic and dispute advisory practice at Raich Ende Malter & Co., New York. Misuraca has more than 20 years of public and industry accounting experience and specializes in forensic accounting.

Robert Mayer, partner, has been named to the newly created position of chief revenue officer and Jerry Eitel, partner, was named office managing partner for the Long Island office, at Prager Metis, Woodbury.


David Maaskant, tax manager in the Carlisle office of Smith Elliott Kearns & Co., earned the Certified Valuation Analyst credential.


Catherine Heigel, former director of the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, has returned to Elliott Davis, Greenville, as its chief operating officer. In 2013, Heigel joined Elliott Davis as general counsel and corporate strategies officer, and left in June 2015 for a period of public service.

Elizabeth Burnett was hired as an associate in the assurance and advisory services department at Scott and Co., Columbia.

J.D. Stotts was appointed chief information officer at Whitley Penn, Dallas. Stotts has more than 20 years of experience in information security, software development, infrastructure and operations, and will be responsible for Whitley Penn’s entire IT operation.


Ana Maria Elorrieta was appointed to the board of trustees of the International Valuations Standards Council, London.


Michelle Thompson was named managing partner and CEO of Cherry Bekaert, Richmond, succeeding Howard Kies and becoming on of three women currently leading one of the 25 largest accounting firms. (Read the full story.)
