The top cities to be an accountant

What's the best place to start an accounting career? Many graduates may think that they should be thinking about what kind of firm they want to work at — but it might also make sense to think about what city they want to work with, since that can make a material difference to the number of job openings available, and the salaries on offer.

The Bureau of Labor Standards expects employment for accountants and auditors overall to grow an average of 4% between 2022 and 2032 — but in the 10 cities listed below, it's expected to grow between 10% and a whopping 33%. And that's just part of why they deserved a place on Forbes Advisor's recent list of the 99 best metro areas to move after earning an accounting degree.

The cities are primarily ranked based on the number of CPA offices, the number of tax prep offices, and the number of other accounting establishments per 1,000 businesses, based on Census Bureau data.
