Virchow Krause Changes Name to Baker Tilly

Accounting firm Virchow Krause has changed its name to Baker Tilly to reflect its membership in the international accounting network.

The Madison, Wis.-based firm is now the exclusive U.S.-branded firm in the Baker Tilly International Network and will operate under the legal name of Baker Tilly Virchow Krause LLP. The firm has been lobbying for the naming rights to the Baker Tilly brand in the U.S. since at least last September (see Virchow Krause Wants Baker Tilly Brand). The 77-year-old firm is the largest U.S. member firm of the Baker Tilly International Network, and joined the U.K.-based network in 1999.

Baker Tilly International is the world's eighth largest accounting and business services network by fee income with 145 member firms in 110 countries.

Founded in 1931, Baker Tilly Virchow Krause is the 17th largest accounting firm in the U.S., according to Accounting Today’s list of the Top 100 Firms, with $216 million in revenue.

While the firm remains the largest independent North American firm in Baker Tilly International, CEO Tim Christen believes the brand transition aligns with the firm's long-term growth plans and will strengthen its capabilities to meet its clients’ need to compete internationally.

"Being the first and only U.S. firm to adopt the global Baker Tilly brand is a rare and valuable opportunity, which will help us develop a sustainable international growth model," said Christen in a statement.

He noted that many of the firm’s clients are increasingly involved in international commerce, and the transition to the Baker Tilly brand will strengthen the firm’s ability to provide them with global resources as they develop and expand their businesses abroad.
