ADP Sees 187,000 Jobs Added in January

Private sector employers in the U.S. added 187,000 jobs last month, according to the latest monthly payroll figures from ADP.

The monthly report, compiled by payroll giant ADP and consultancy Macroeconomic Advisers, found job gains across all sizes and sectors. Small businesses with less than 50 employees added 97,000 jobs, with midsized businesses with between 50 and 499 employees added 79,000 jobs, and large companies with 500 or employees added 11,000 jobs.

The goods-producing sector added 21,000 jobs, while the service-providing sector added 166,000 jobs, according to ADP. Even the manufacturing industry gained 19,000 jobs.

Among small businesses, the goods-producing sector added 7,000 small business jobs, while the service-providing sector increased by 90,000 small business jobs.

The federal government will be releasing its own jobs report on Friday, which will include data from both the private and public sectors. The ADP report is based on ADP’s own payroll customers.
