The American Institute of CPAs has announced that its 2019-2020 Legacy Scholarship application period is now open. This year's program will award over $650,000 in scholarships to undergraduate and graduate accounting students.
Part of the AICPA Legacy Scholars Program, this year's scholarships will offer over 100 students financial aid across a wide range of honors. The Legacy Scholars Program has now awarded over $3 million in scholarships since its launch in 2011. Funding is provided by the AICPA Foundation, the American Women’s Society of CPAs, Robert Half and numerous state CPA societies.
This year's scholarships include:
- AICPA Foundation Two-Year Transfer Scholarship Award: A $5,000 scholarship award goes to students looking to transfer from a two-year college to a four-year college to complete their accounting or accounting-related degree. Applicants must have a GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) and be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
- AICPA John L. Carey Scholarship Award: This $5,000 scholarship will provide financial assistance to liberal arts and non-business undergraduate degree graduates who are currently pursuing graduate studies in accounting and CPA licensure. Applicants must be full-time graduate students and U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
- AICPA/Robert Half Student Scholarship Award: A $10,000 scholarship award grants financial assistance to top full-time undergraduate or graduate accounting students with leadership potential in the CPA profession. Applicants must have a GPA of at least 3.0 and be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
- AICPA Scholarship Award for Minority Accounting Students: The $3,000-$5,000 scholarship award provides financial assistance to full-time, minority students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in accounting or a related major. Applicants must have a GPA of at least 3.0 and be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
A new addition this year, the American Women's Society of CPAs Scholarship Award, will offer $5,000 to notable female students majoring in accounting or a related field. The AICPA Foundation, the AICPA’s Women’s Initiatives Executive Committee and its new AWSCPA Task Force are sponsoring the scholarship to advance more women in the accounting profession.
“The AWSCPA Scholarship Award is an expansion of AICPA’s efforts to ensure a robust pipeline of accounting talent is entering the accounting profession,” stated Joanne Fiore, Association of International Certified Professional Accountants vice president of professional media, academic and student engagement. “The AICPA encourages all qualified students to apply for the AICPA Legacy Scholarships.”
