The American Institute of CPAs has released a new line of learning resources on the future of finance.

The AICPA learning materials are a combination of free and for-purchase products collectively called Go Beyond+ Disruption. They cover topics including human intelligence, data analytics, cybersecurity, blockchain and robotic process automation. The free courses cover overviews and introductions to topics, taking the form of video or audio clips. The paid courses drill down deeper in the subject matter, and may take the form of live learning, webcasts or on-demand, self-paced learning.

Some of the materials will count as nano-CPE lessons, meaning a CPA can intake five different 10-minute lessons to earn one CPE credit. This varies by state.

Go Beyond+ Disruption’s courses will be delivered via podcasts, Facebook Live, YouTube videos, blog posts and nano learning, as well as more traditional methods such as online self-study, webcasts and conferences. Accounting and finance professionals can demonstrate competency in specific areas through a combination of certificates and digital badges.

The human intelligence materials are already available through the online AICPA and CGMA stores. Data analytics and blockchain resources will be available in the months ahead, and other categories will be added later.

“Automation and other disruptive trends in the accounting profession will require CPAs and Chartered Global Management Accountants to learn, unlearn and relearn as they progress through their careers,” said Clar Rosso, executive vice president of engagement and learning innovation for the AICPA. “To thrive, you’ll need to continuously adapt your skillset and evolve your competencies. Our learning resources and products can help accounting and finance professionals understand how to effectively use emerging technologies to drive value and take advantage of new business opportunities.”

Russo's team also plans to introduce MOOKs in the future, or massive online open courses, similar to the kind universities provided through EdX.
