Aquinas College adds accounting and auditing program for non-CPAs

Grand Rapids, Michigan-based Aquinas College has announced the launch of a new accounting and auditing certificate program, aimed at the growing demand for non-accounting professionals in accounting and finance positions.

The new Accounting and Auditing Certificate Program will educate non-CPAs in financial accounting, accounting systems and auditing. Aquinas said the program is looking to attract IT professionals who work with accountants in corporations, government and nonprofits. The program will be led by Aquinas College’s three full-time accounting professors, all of whom are certified CPAs.

“This program meets a real and rapidly increasing need in the business community in greater West Michigan,” said Aquinas professor Brad Keuning in a statement. “One of the key elements of the Aquinas College Accounting and Auditing Certificate Program is our ability to deliver critical skills that non-accounting professionals can use to help their financial teams and organizations succeed.”

Program topics will include accounting and auditing fundamentals; financial statement and ratio analysis; an introduction to accounting systems, system risks, business processes and controls; experiential audit simulation: audit purpose, risk assessment, materiality, controls, audit testing and reporting; and an industry-specific breakout week with content customized based on student interests.

Registration is now open for the program, which will begin June 1 and run for 10 weeks, with classes held online from 7-10 p.m. on Tuesdays. More information is available on Aquinas's site here.
