Atlanta Accounting Firms Combine

Habif, Arogeti & Wynne said all the shareholders and staff of Tauber & Balser have joined the firm, effective November 1, extending the Atlanta-based firm's forensic accounting and litigation support expertise.

Tauber & Balser augmented HA&W's staff by 60, for a total of 375 staff. All of the Tauber & Balser staff relocated to HA&W's new offices last week, which HA&W just moved into two weeks ago.

Tauber & Balser offers services including accounting, auditing, business consulting, business valuation, estate planning, forensic accounting, litigation support, mergers and acquisitions, and taxation. The firm specializes in working with family businesses, not-for-profit organizations, public companies and real estate firms. Other clients include law firms, financial institutions, insurance companies, government agencies, privately owned businesses and high-net-worth individuals.

HA&W managing partner Dan Simms said the firm has grown organically over its 55-year history into one of the top firms in the Atlanta market, but a few years ago the partners decided to quicken the pace. Last November, the firm combined forces with Miller Ray Houser & Stewart, bringing in 35 staff.

Habif Arogeti ranked 58th on Accounting Today's 2008 list of the Top 100 Firms, with $45.22 million in revenue.

Tauber & Balser is about a $12 million firm, according to Simms, but he declined to provide financial details of the transaction.

"They have a lot of talent not only at the partner level but also below the partner level," he said. "In the past they have had a pretty large litigation practice, but they also handle several smaller public companies. We wanted to expand both those segments within our firm, expand the SEC practice but also expand the litigation services." He hopes to increase the staff at the firm to more than 425 within the next six months.
