BDO Canada Merges in Majewski Shaler

BDO Canada LLP has merged in Majewski Shaler & Co., a Vancouver-based accounting practice.

The deal, announced Tuesday, is the eighth merger BDO has done in the last 12 months in Canada. Financial terms were not disclosed. On Monday, BDO Canada announced its seventh transaction, with H&A Forensic Accounting (see BDO Canada Acquires H&A Forensic Accounting).

Majewski Shaler, established in 1981, services Vancouver’s small and midsize enterprises, particularly medical, engineering, commercial real estate and technology businesses. As a result of the merger, Majewski Shaler owner Bill King will become a partner in BDO and will lead BDO’s outsourcing initiative in the Greater Vancouver market.

“Technology is poised to become a substantial disruptor in the accounting profession and our cloud-based outsourcing platform positions us to get ahead of this trend,” said Michael Madsen, office managing partner at BDO for the Greater Vancouver area, in a statement. “By teaming up with Majewski Shaler, not only do we expand our deep connections with Vancouver’s small business and entrepreneurial community but we gain a dedicated small business partner to drive forward our cloud-based outsourcing initiative.”

BDO’s outsourcing initiative provides cloud-based technology for bookkeeping, payroll and CFO services for small and midsize enterprises.

“I wholeheartedly believe cloud-based platforms such as BDO’s outsourcing application are the future of small business accounting and I’m excited to be championing this initiative,” said King. “SMEs need real-time financial performance and KPIs at their fingertips to help inform strategic business decisions, but struggle with the additional overhead of hiring a financial officer. This service delivers critical information in a format that is accessible anywhere in the world on any device.”
