BerryDunn combines with Rodman CPAs

BerryDunn, a Top 100 Firm based in Portland, Maine, has acquired Rodman CPAs, a firm based in Waltham, Massachusetts, effective July 1, expanding its presence in New England.

Rodman has nearly 40 employees, and by combining with BerryDunn’s more than 400 employees, it will become one of the largest such firms headquartered in New England.

As part of the deal, five Rodman partners — Steve Rodman, Kathy Parker, Bob Leonard, Mark Minassian and Leah Shanahan — will become principals at BerryDunn, which will have 39 principals as of June 30. Rodman himself will become principal in charge of BerryDunn’s new Waltham office. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. BerryDunn ranked 65th on Accounting Today’s 2019 list of the Top 100 Firms, with $70.46 million in annual revenue and 37 principals.

Rodman CPAs dates back to 1961 and specializes in servicing the renewable energy industry.

“We decided to seek a merger with another firm because we believe that a larger organization will allow us to provide a wider array of services and more depth,” Rodman said in a statement. “A larger organization will also mean our associates will benefit from additional career opportunities. We chose BerryDunn for the values we share of great client service and a commitment to attracting, developing, and retaining the highest quality people.”

BerryDunn Managing Principal John Chandler said the combination would increase his firm’s ability to serve the greater Boston market. “Most of BerryDunn’s growth has come organically from great client service and referrals,” he stated. “For a merger to be right for us, we look for a partner firm that adds value beyond numbers. We are excited by the new team members and capabilities that will perfectly complement ours. In addition to a healthy tax practice, Rodman brings a nationally recognized renewable energy expertise and a unique, concierge model of accounting outsourcing that will expand how we can serve our client base.”

In 2017, BerryDunn merged in Compass Health Analytics, a health consulting firm in Portland, Maine.
