Big Four among biggest employers of recent college grads

The Big Four accounting firms ranked near the top of the list of employers of recent college graduates, according to a recent ranking.

The list, from online education information provider OnlineU, analyzed employment data from more than 560,000 graduates who entered the workforce during the COVID-19 pandemic afer earning their degrees from 2019 to 2021. The study found the top 25 companies hired 10% of recent college grads during the COVID pandemic.

The Big Four firms, Deloitte, EY, KPMG and PwC continued to be the industry’s largest employers, ranking only behind Amazon in the No. 1 spot. The study found that after initial revenue declines, the Big Four all grew revenue above pre-pandemic levels by the end of 2021.

Deloitte, at No. 2, was seen as the top employer for economics majors, with the top degrees including accounting, business administration, economics, and computer science. The most popular jobs for Deloitte jobs included business analyst, consultant, senior business analyst and auditor.

Ernst & Young, at No. 3, ranked as the top employer for management information systems and accounting majors. At EY, the top degrees were accounting, business administration, finance and economics. The most popular jobs were quality assurance manager, consultant and intern.

For KPMG, in the No. 4 spot, the top degrees were in accounting, business administration, finance and economics. The most popular jobs included internal audit manager, intern and senior accountant.

For PricewaterhouseCoopers, the top degrees were in accounting, business administration, economics and finance. The most popular jobs at PwC were quality assurance auditor, intern and tax preparer.

Just behind PwC in the No. 6 spot was Accenture, which originated as Andersen Consulting, the consulting arm of the former Big Five firm Arthur Andersen.

The data came from Emsi Burning Glass, an analytics company that maintains regularly updated employment data on the current labor market from publicly available sources, including resumes, job postings and LinkedIn profiles. The data includes 564,624 graduates who earned their bachelor’s degrees in 2019 through 2021 and reflects where each college graduate was employed one year after earning their degree.
