Braver Acquires Small Firm; Plans New Boston Office

Boston-area firm Braver PC announced the acquisition of the practice of CPA Scott A. Kanter, formerly of Brown & Brown LLP.

Cynthia Hickey, Kanter's associate for the last 15 years, will lead the transition of the accounting practice from Brown & Brown to Braver and become Braver's first female shareholder.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"Scott's philosophy of excellent client service, that was developed over three generations of the Kanter family, reflects the same values Braver has stood for over the last 50 years," said Braver's president and chief executive Patrick Riley.

Four staff members will join Hickey in the transition from Brown & Brown, strengthening Braver's real estate and entrepreneurial business accounting and tax services.

Hickey has more than 20 years of experience providing tax planning and compliance services to a diverse client base. She specializes in tax accounting and tax preparation for individuals and small closely-held and family-managed businesses.

Braver has plans to open a new Boston office in the fall and employs more than 100 professionals.
