Carpenter Named as Chair of Board to Oversee Global CFP certification

Denver (Jan. 22, 2003) -- As part of efforts to restructure the international Certified Financial Planner certification program, the newly formed Financial Planning Standards Board Ltd., the body charged with overseeing the global development of the CFP certification, has tapped Canadian John S. Carpenter as its chairman.

Carpenter is a past chair of the CFP Board's Canadian affiliate, the Financial Planners Standards Council, and currently serves as executive director and chief executive of Certified General Accountants Association of Alberta. Carpenter served as a Canadian delegate to the International CFP Council from 2000 to 2002, chaired its Finance Committee from 2001 to 2002, and was a member of the CFP Board/International CFP Council joint task force working on international restructuring.

Maureen M. Tsu, CFP, has been named chairperson-elect. Tsu is vice president of San Juan Capistrano, Calif.-based Professional Financial Advisors Inc. Tsu has served as a member of the CFP Board's Board of Governors and as chair of its Board of Appeals. She also served on the Institute of Certified Financial Planners Board in the initial stages of talks with the International Association for Financial Planning to form the Financial Planning Association.

Noel Maye has been named chief executive officer. Maye most recently served as senior vice president overseeing the international, legal services, public and consumer affairs, and communications departments at the Denver-based CFP Board. In addition to managing operations and implementing programs on behalf of the International CFP Council, Maye was a member of the council's Marketing Communications Group, chair of its Marks and Professional Standards Committee, and a past chair of its Public Awareness Committee.

The other members of FPSB Board of Directors are: Elaine E. Bedel, CFP, of Indianapolis; Joanne A. Bickel, CFP, of Connecticut; Louis J. Garday of Colorado; Raymond Griffin, CFP, of Tamworth, Australia; S. Timothy Kochis, CFP, of California; Nicolas R.A. Koechlin, CFP, of Berne, Switzerland; and Ian A. Middleton, CFP, of Cape Town, South Africa.
