CBIZ MHM Creates Forensic Group

CBIZ MHM LLC has formed a national specialty practice group focused on forensic services, bankruptcy and valuation.

The group will be led by CBIZ Financial Services president Dave Sibits and Marie Ebersbacher, the forensic and financial services lead managing director in Southern California.

The new Forensic and Financial Services Group is a step in building a national firm with national specialty practice groups. The group will unite the firm’s experts in forensic and litigation support, corporate recovery and valuation services from offices around the country into one national practice.

“The Forensic and Financial Services Group is a culmination of several strategic acquisitions and recruiting initiatives that have significantly enhanced our ability to offer a wide variety of forensic, corporate recovery and transactional services across the country,” Sibits said in a statement. “Our strategy continues to be one based on incubating talent and expertise internally and then supplementing that development with smart acquisitions to allow us to develop services that meet market demand on a national level.”

CBIZ has recruited accountants from Mahoney Cohen, which had a strong bankruptcy practice; CBIZ Mayer Hoffman McCann acquired Mahoney Cohen in 2008. Gregory Cowhey will be in charge of litigation support and forensic services at the new group. The client service line will offer commercial and civil litigation support, family law services, forensic accounting, and fraud detection and prevention services. Cowhey is a managing director in the Philadelphia office, and has more than 25 years of client service experience.

David Bowerman will lead the group’s valuation advisory client service line, which offers financial valuation, capital asset management, equipment valuation and real estate valuation services. Bowerman, based in Atlanta, is president of the CBIZ Valuation Group and brings more than 28 years of experience.

Jeffrey Sutton leads the corporate recovery and bankruptcy practice nationwide, offering turnaround and restructuring advice, bankruptcy support and trustee services. Sutton is a managing director in the New York office, and brings with him more than 30 years of client service experience.

“Unlike traditional tax or audit work, these services tend to be more transactional in nature, making this diverse array of services a logical grouping under one umbrella,” said Ebersbacher. “There are many natural links between these services and connecting the dots will allow our clients to benefit from a wider range of service offerings and a more expansive network of our specialists.”
