Cincinnati Firms Combine

Local firms Mellott & Mellott and Thomas Heldman CPA and Associates announced that they will be merging effective Jan. 1, 2016.

The Heldman team will move into Mellott’s offices at 312 Walnut Street. Principal Tim Heldman will join Don Mellott, John Mellott and Rick Rumpler as a general partner of the combined firm, which will operate under the Mellott name.

Mellott & Mellott, a 60-year-old firm, has 31 staff; Heldman founded his two-person firm in 1985.

“We want to make sure people understand we’re in growth mode,” managing Don Mellott said in an interview with the Cincinnati Business Courier. “There are firms getting merged and firms looking to merge firms into them. Our client philosophies are similar, too. We’re not looking for really small clients. This really fits in well and is a good model for us to use going forward.”

“I had to grow,” said Heldman in the same interview. “My clients have been doing great, and I’ve been growing with them, somewhat. But I’ve spent time in a compliance rut, filling out forms instead of helping them run their businesses. I found myself turning down work because I didn’t have the capabilities.”

Mellott & Mellott works with high-net-worth individuals and closely held family businesses.
