Deloitte Presents Tax Case Awards

The Deloitte Foundation has announced the regional winners of the Deloitte Tax Case Study Competition, an interscholastic competition that brought together nearly 60 teams from colleges and universities in 11 cities across the country in October to tackle complex tax case studies.

Teams were presented with a complex, hypothetical case study that tested their knowledge on a variety of tax topics.  Each team of four students had five hours to develop a solution based on the Tax Code and Treasury regulations.

Following the regional competition, 12 student teams were selected to advance to the national finals on November 21-23 in Orlando, Fla., where they will compete for $90,000 in individual scholarships and institutional awards.

The 2008 Tax Case Study Competition finalists are:

Graduate Division:  Brigham Young University, College of William & Mary, University of Central Florida, University of Denver, Georgia State University, University of Southern California

Undergraduate Division: Brigham Young University, Georgia State University, University of Iowa, University of Northern Colorado, College of William & Mary and the University of Wisconsin -- Madison

The following eight schools were also recognized for their performance in the regional competition with honorable mention awards:

Graduate Division: University of Missouri, Northern Illinois University, University of Northern Iowa, Utah State University

Undergraduate Division: University of Denver, University of Oklahoma, Utah State University, Xavier University
