Top 100 firm Dixon Hughes Goodman, in response to the national "#MeToo" and anti-harassment movements, recently held a number of discussions on the topic via a company-wide panel discussion, team meetings and blog posts, with firm leaders discussing how to best address equality in the workplace, avoid bias, and to encourage speaking out against any workplace harassment.
Broadcast from DHG’s Charlotte, N.C., headquarters last March, the half-hour live discussion, titled “#MeToo – Leadership Perspectives on the Current Movement and DHG’s Culture of Respect,” included four firm leaders discussing the topic of harassment and the firm's mission of building a workplace of "respect." The panel also encouraged discussions for all staff members and partners through all the firm's offices.
“Anti-harassment is an incredibly relevant and important topic that we felt strongly about addressing with our people while sharing a clear picture of our own culture of respect,” said Effin Logue, chief people officer, per a statement. “The leaders participating in the discussion spoke from personal experience and offered terrific perspective for our people to use in their own careers and personal lives.”
“The broadcast allowed our team members to come together as a group to watch and share our own thoughts and experiences around harassment,” stated partner Daniel Sanders. “We were able to take what we had just heard from our leaders and transition to a follow up discussion that led to great conversation and many ideas about how to practically apply what we just heard about harassment in the workplace.”
Firm CEO Matt Snow also dedicated a recent entry of his CEO Blog to the topic, in a post titled, “#MeToo – Fostering a Culture of Respect.” The post shares Snow's takeaways from the broadcast session and promises staff to build an "equal environment that defines boundaries and builds valuable careers...[It] is also the responsibility of each of us to educate ourselves on what harassment is and to have open and honest dialogue about it."
