Drake Breaks Tax Season Sales Record

Drake Software said that it has sold more tax software than ever before in its 32-year history.

The tax prep software developer said that over 30,000 customers had purchased its product as of mid-January. Last year, the company had about 26,000 customers overall, a more than 15 percent increase, according to vice president of sales and marketing John Sapp. The privately held company does not release revenue figures, however.

Sapp said that the increase was mainly due to word of mouth, and not any extra marketing or acquisitions.

“We really attribute it to folks finding out about what a great value our product is,” he said. “We also attribute it to folks finding out about the great support we have. Call everybody else’s support line. How long does it take to talk to a support person? It’s about eight seconds for us.”

The company’s size doesn’t compare to some of its giant competitors, but Sapp considers that to be an advantage. “People are fed up with just being a number,” he said.
