Ease up on multiple CAF requests, IRS asks

As the IRS works to return its Centralized Authorization File to normal processing operations, it is asking for tax practitioners’ help.

CAF units at Memphis, Tennessee, and Ogden, Utah, are now operational, but with limited staffing.

Sending multiple requests for access to a taxpayer’s account strains operations, the IRS said, as does sending in duplicate 2848s and 8821s.

The IRS is asking that CAF users fax a request only once, and double-check forms for accuracy to speed up processing times.
