Einhorn Receives AICPA Award

The American Institute of CPAs' Tax Division presented Alan Einhorn with its 2007-2008 Distinguished Service Award at its spring meeting.

Einhorn is vice chair of the AICPA Tax Executive Committee and a partner with Deloitte Tax LLP in Washington, D.C. "Alan was an obvious choice for this year's award," said AICPA vice president of taxation Tom Ochsenschlager in a statement. "The number of personal hours he dedicated to the AICPA Tax Division this year was phenomenal."

Einhorn played a key role in the AICPA's efforts to correct a law passed by Congress in May 2007 that raised the tax return reporting standards for tax preparers to a level higher than that of taxpayers in determining penalties for understatement of tax liabilities, creating the potential for conflicts of interest. A provision that would equalize the reporting standards has been passed by the House as part of H.R. 6049 and is pending in the Senate (see Extenders Bill Seeks to Even Preparer Standards).

Einhorn spent numerous hours every week for the past year leading a task force that worked with government officials on developing the new provision.
