EisnerAmper Founding Partner Alfonse M. Mattia Dies

Alfonse M. Mattia, a founding partner of Amper, Politziner & Mattia, one of the legacy firms of EisnerAmper LLP, passed away Sunday, October 2, at the age of 69.

Known for his leadership and innovative thinking, Mattia was highly respected by his peers and colleagues, and was a longtime proponent of the value of marketing for accounting firms. He was integrally involved with the development of his firm’s market-facing programs and initiatives, and was considered a visionary in the profession by his colleagues.

Mattia was an active member of the American Institute of CPAs, New Jersey and New York State Societies of CPAs, and Harvard Business School Club of New York. He served for three years on the AICPA’s Assurance Services Executive Committee, and also served as a member of “The Group of 100," a national group formed by the AICPA to protect the public interest and position the accounting profession for the future.

Mattia was a founding member of the Rutgers University Family Business Forum, and an honorary member of the Beta Alpha Psi Organization. He also served on the board of directors of several public, private and civic organizations.

With over 40 years in public accounting, Mattia had a strong focus on family-owned businesses. He also served as a member of the board of trustees at Rider University. He was instrumental in developing the "More Than Just Numbers" program, created to educate young children regarding career opportunities in the accounting profession. He received his B.S. in Commerce from Rider and completed the Owner/President Management Program at the Harvard Business School (1982–1984).

He will be missed greatly by his family, friends and the profession.
