Expensify debuts new podcast

Expensify has launched its new podcast, “Live rich, have fun, save the world.”

The show highlights success stories and lessons from business trailblazers, and is co-hosted by Expensify founder and CEO, David Barrett, and former heavy-metal frontman Monte Barnard, who now works for the expense management software company in sales and marketing.

In a statement, Barrett described the purpose of the podcast as reorienting the way society defines success around the three goals named in the show’s title. “Live rich encourages you to pursue financial freedom and helps you design a lifestyle to enjoy it," he said. "Have fun challenges you to stretch beyond the ‘easy fun’ of planning typical activities to the ‘hard fun’ of creating truly baller experiences. The last life goal, save the world, is a major focus of this first season in which we’ll discuss different approaches to societal issues such as equality, voting rights and racial inclusivity.”

If the past is any indication, the podcast will not hold back on opinions — Barrett caused a stir last year when he sent an email to every person on Expensify’s listserv encouraging them explicitly to vote for President Joe Biden in the then-upcoming election. Despite criticism, he did not apologize or back down from his position.

Some guests on the upcoming first season are:

  • Eric Ries — entrepreneur, author of the New York Times bestseller “The Lean Startup,” and founder and CEO of the Long-Term Stock Exchange;
  • CJ McCollum — shooting guard for the Portland Trail Blazers with interests ranging from journalism to philanthropy and a personal wine label;
  • DJ Mick — DJ, speaker, investor and entrepreneur who has collaborated with superstar musicians including Jay-Z, Kanye West and Prince;
  • John Koza — founder of National Popular Vote Inc., computer scientist and developer of software for state lotteries and scratch-off tickets; and,
  • Zanele Mutepfa-Rhone — Zimbabwean culture and diversity strategist, professor at Portland State University, and founder of the women’s experiential series, “Here to Stay.”

“Live rich, have fun, save the world” is available to stream via the Expensify website and other platforms including Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
