Thirty staff members from White Nelson Diehl Evans participated in a carnival that the firm organized for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Garden Grove. The WNDE team members set up and staffed 15 stations at the carnival, including the potato sack race, milk bottle knockdown, ping pong number toss, ring toss, three-legged race and animal balloons, a favorite for many children. About 120 children participated in the carnival.

The American Institute of CPAs has announced its 2014 Accounting Scholars Leadership Workshop graduating class. The 114 students selected for the Workshop successfully completed the two-day program, which strengthened their professional and success skills, while highlighting the career possibilities becoming a CPA affords. The New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants and its Foundation for Accounting Education have announced the 71 New York college students who will receive Excellence in Accounting Scholarships for the 2014-2015 school year. The scholarships are awarded in order to provide financial assistance and support to accounting majors. Fifty-eight college students received a $2,500 scholarship; six received $1,250, one received $1,000 and four received $500 grants sponsored by accounting firm Anchin, Block & Anchin LLP. For the fourth year running, WTP Advisors has been named to Inc. Magazine’s annual ranking of America’s fastest-growing private companies.

UHY LLP and Financial Executives Internationalconducted a survey which found that mid-size company CFOs need to improve their transaction skills to maximize their companies’ opportunities in the coming years. Almost two-thirds 60 percent of financial executives pointed to transaction abilities as the skill area most needing improvement among CFOs of middle market companies in a UHY LLP-FEI survey conducted during the firms’ “CFO Summer Breakfast Series” this week in Houston. Another 36 percent identified finance as the area most needing strengthening; only 4-percent saw accounting skills as an area of CFO weakness.
