St. Petersburg, Fla. - At Game Two of the World Series, not all the action was on the field, as KPMG LLP chairman Timothy Flynn (at right) presented a $1 million check from the firm to Major League Baseball Charities for Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities, a youth outreach program designed to increase participation among boys and girls in baseball and softball, encourage academic achievement, and teach the value of teamwork. Flynn was joined by members of of the 2008 RBI World Series Champion Detroit Junior Boys' team, and RBI program director David James (left).
KPMG has sponsored RBI since 2007; Flynn also presented a $1 million check at that year's World Series.
A DIFFERENT KIND OF MAKEOVER
Rockville, Md. - Maryland firm Aronson & Co. recently sponsored one of its clients, Dan Ryan Builders, in a project with ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to help rebuild a home for a deserving family in nearby Mont Alto, Pa.
Dan Ryan Builders took the lead as the homebuilder on the project and Aronson pledged $7,500 to the family - as well as donating accounting services to help them manage the financial obligations of their new home. The Aronson team (including Zach Barker, Tom Cordrey and Michele Raptosh, above) assisted with a variety of tasks, including moving and arranging furniture, setting up the kitchen, cleaning up the site, helping the painters, and working at the check-in tent to hand out t-shirts and name tags.
The episode will air in January.
