Firms Combine in Northern California

Andersen & Co. LLP, an accounting firm in California’s North Bay region, has announced plans to merge with Beels, Soper & Frei LLP of Petaluma, Calif.

Financial terms of the merger, which will be effective July 1, were not disclosed.

The combined firm will have 33 employees, including nearly two dozen CPAs, and will maintain locations in San Francisco (where Andersen recently opened an office focusing on business valuation), Petaluma and Santa Rosa, Calif.

The three-CPA firm of Beels, Soper & Frei -- which included Donna Beels, William Soper and Andrew Frei -- will take the Andersen name.

Founding partner James Andersen said that while his firm had strong tax, business valuation and business litigation support divisions, it had lacked depth and experience in accounting and auditing prior to the deal.

Andersen now plans to target clients throughout the nine counties of the Bay Area as well as northern California and beyond, especially looking to sell its succession-planning services -- which Andersen told a local newspaper that nearly all of his firm's 500 business clients could use in some capacity.

Andersen has also developed niche services serving the construction, legal, manufacturing and professional industries.
