Former CalCPA CEO John Dunleavy Dead at 68

John Dunleavy, who led both the California CPA Education Foundation and the California Society of CPAs, has died.

A resident of Redwood City, Calif., Dunleavy, 68, died on Aug. 5, 2009, of a heart attack. He was born on Dec. 6, 1940, in Scranton, Pa.

Dunleavy became executive director of the California CPA Education Foundation in 1993 after having served CalCPA from 1980 as director of conferences and then as head of its member relations operations. He was interim CEO of both CalCPA and the Education Foundation in 2000 and again in 2004, when CalCPA was searching for permanent CEOs.

He served as the Education Foundation’s executive director until 2006. In 2007, Dunleavy received CalCPA’s Distinguished Service Award.
